I assume when you said, “the top of wall was going up and down”, maybe you
ment to say in and out?…If that’s the case, you just needed to put a 2 x
4 block, on the o/s, at the top of each end of the long wall and put a
string line, pulled real tight, on it, and build braces on the inside, long
2 x 4, or maybe a 1 x 10, nail it to the top plate, and later, down to the
subfloor. Then check the string line for the 1-1/2″ measurement, equals
straightness of your wall, and pull or push the wall braces, in or out till
you get 1-1/2″/straight wall, and nail them off to the subfloor, wha-laa,
straight wall!
you did a good job. personally, that method you used looked very dangerous
and i was surprised it worked. it was clever but i prefer to do tried and
true methods as you can see, you ended up being off and wasted a lot of
labor. if you did it over again, would you just buy wall jacks? they’re not
even that expensive.
I built my home almost exclusively alone and at every larger stage I had to
engineer a way to do it. Often it took ten times as long but I had the
satisfaction of doing it myself :).
are you building this all by yourself?
too funny! great advice though.

A great example of why walls are built 8′, 10′ or 12′ at a time. Herculean
effort though.
Its apparent, this was your first rodeo..Live and learn

get some pulleys dude
That was awesome. That was smart to put the 2x12s on the ends. Good job!
Also, I love your house in the background.
