Either way is fine to me personally. If you do longer videos you would have
to make it extra interesting. And on the series of shorter video it helps a
lot (like you have been doing) to include an on-screen link to the next /
previous video, as well as putting them in play-lists. So what I am saying
for me it’s not about the length of them. More about the content and the
way it’s presented.
I would say keep doing what you’re doing. Meaning just post when you have
time because you trying to stick to a schedule will make it a pain. I
would say keep the videos short since that is how you got as many followers
up to this point. Keep people wanting more that’s why they come back. If
you make them too long people might get bored. With that said I’m a big
fan so I’ll watch either way. -Russell
I check everyday! Now with 3g mobile internet on my android it’s easy and
when I want some entertainment other then listening to Portlands All
Classical FM or Venice Classic Radio or Avro de Klassieken I look at my
subcriptions on YouTube! I do short videos of one or two minutes because my
camera is AVI and the sd is full before you know it and I don’ t know how
to put two together!:)
I went through most of your videos in one weekend. I’m going to build my
own garage next summer so I was looking at garage builds. Honestly you got
me hooked on your other projects. I would just keep doing what you do best.
Man your a beast when it comes to getting things done around the place.
I like both ways… I must say I think I like the voice over videos the
most… they crack me up. Like I’ve said before, I don’t really watch to
learn anything (not saying I don’t for sure) I watch to see ramble and
argue with yourself. LOL
If your just doing this as a hobby, i would say do whatever you feel like
is right. Your talking about a schedule and that really feels as if you are
obligated to do something. There are YTers that release a video each month,
weekly, daily or whenever they have content to release.
Analytics focuses on all your visits and not your subcriber base. Drawing
in new ppl will be easier with quick short concise videos, these ppl
ussualy land on your videos due to key word searches or coming from a
related video. Using more and better keywords / tag per video would result
in more viewers. If you have a blog you could backlink to it with an
article that really goes into depths of what was talked about in the video.
Youtube cares about content, not length or quality simply content. Users
however do care about the content and the quality of it. You will get
higher in the listings and related videos when you create more content
obtain more subscribers as the channel grows.
Might even wanna put effort in upping the production value by editing the
videos. Such as using text to accentuate key bullitin points. Using an
overlay during the start and end of a video to ask for a subs in a none
irritating way generally does the trick. People dislike when the creater
has to spew his little “sales pitch” in every video during the start and
end.
Personally i check my feed once a week, or i may glance over it and pick
out one that catches my eye. (thumbnail looks and title gets more views)
As you can see.. creating content on youtube can become a full fledged
carreer. From the idea, planning executing filming, retakes, polishing
editing untill publishing. But if that is not your goal and it is simply to
excersise your hobby while teaching others i’d say do whatever you like
doing. Doing something you are not enjoying is a task that will not be
sustainable in the long run.
Wether you focus on creating light hearted entertainment videos or you
really focus on the instructional and informational aspect or a different
style is up to you. I watched your videos more because you seemed
interesting, i like seeing construction / do it yourself type project and
you made some jokes here and there wich cracked me up.
Food for thought.
Sources? I am a YT partner on a alternate account where i do IT related
videos since 2007.
I think 5-10 minutes is a good length. Personally, I don’t watch videos
right when they come out. I wait until there are a few new ones, then
watch usually.
As long as you enjoy what you are doing, then your best audience will enjoy
it too and keep watching. So don’t make it too much work for yourself. I
like the video’s that are a little longer, your fun to listen to as you
progress on your projects. I’m glad to hear you will continue doing videos
beyond the completion of the garage. There is sooo much fun stuff you can
do with your skills, humor, and attitude and all that property!
What do you people want from me?

Are you going to finish up the basement garage doors?
I personally check every day for new posts, but what I would like to see is
a garage tour?
Never mind the video’s, Christmas will be here soon, you should do a
Calendar!

Shorter vids, I watch them on break at work.

I check for new videos on my You tube home page every day!
love the long videos of you working even if you do a speed up of the slow
video and back to regular speed to talk about important things!

I get an email every time you upload a video so any time is good for me as
long as they keep coming.
I want to see you install a Fire House Pole.
Every boys dream….& handy if the GF is round?!
Did you ever fix the boiler? Does your experience make you think that Wood
Pellet Stoves leave a lot to be desired?
Can we have a full tour of the garage thankyou
This is a little late but I check my YouTube everyday and I prefer a
8-fifteen minute video.
Without you talking so much.
